What is HDPE?

Many TrippNT carts contain HDPE, but what is it?

High Density Polyethylene is a thermoplastic made from petroleum. As one of the most versatile plastic materials around, HDPE plastic is used in a wide variety of applications, including plastic bottles, milk jugs, shampoo bottles, bleach bottles, cutting boards, and piping. Known for its outstanding tensile strength and large strength-to-density ratio, HDPE plastic has a high-impact resistance and melting point.

What are the Benefits of High Density Polyethylene ?

One of the primary benefits for using this material is its malleability. Because of its High Melting Point HDPE remains rigid until it is exposed to very high temperatures. Once at its melting point, though, it can be formed and molded efficiently .

HDPE is Corrosion Resistant meaning that it is unaffected by mildew, mold, or rot, therefore also weather resistant. These qualities make High Density Polyethylene perfect for food service and laboratory environments due to the ease with which its surface can be sterilized. HDPE will not be degraded by most common chemicals, acids, detergents, or cleaning fluids.

Although many plastics and the products created from them have been identified as contributors to world wide pollution, HDPE is Easily Recycled.

Lastly, a key Strength of High Density Polyethylene, when compared to other plastics, is that HDPE is proven to have strong surface durability in most environments. The material is resistant to impacts or scratches, which are common regarding bathroom partitions and lockers. If a HDPE panel becomes marred, it is quite easy to resurface.
